Pass to Pass Program

The Pass to Pass program is a program to ensure that each athlete in our program knows, understands, and can complete basic skills in volleyball. We have a standard way of teaching basic skills that will give our athletes a greater chance for success. Athletes come into our program from different volleyball backgrounds. Our Pass to Pass Program gives the opportunity for all the athletes to be on the same page with each other, the coaches, and the program at CCVC.

Basic Skills

Forearm Pass ~ Serving ~ Hitting ~ Setting
Forearm Pass: Passing is the number one fundamental skill in the game of volleyball. We want each athlete to know the correct way to move his or her feet. Footwork allows the athlete to get to the ball and complete a pass. Footwork is a large part of the skill of passing. The platform is the next part of passing. How the arms meet the ball.

Serving: A serve is the only time a player gets to handle the ball and have the ability to create points without anyone else factoring in to the play. The ball is end and given to the server. He or she then picks where to serve. This skill is number two fundamental skill in volleyball. We want all athletes to understand the correct way to serve and how important this skill is to a teams success.

Hitting: Left, right, together up. A simple skill in footwork but when we look at the whole picture there is more to it than jumping and swinging at the ball. Footwork again is key to completing this skill but timing, shoulder and arms, and the hands become just as important. Placement of the hit is greater than the strength of the hit. We want players to understand that.

Setting: The overhead pass that can move the ball working as a pass or can set the ball in a better position for the hitter to get the best hit possible. Understanding how to move to the ball and how to better the ball with the hands.

How it works

Week 1 Passing: All players will be taught how to pass the CCVC way. Each player will be given two practices to master a basic pass to a target. This pass will be from a controlled free ball and controlled serve. All players will be taught how to move right, left, forward, and backwards while completing a pass to target. On the 3rd practice of the week the players will be given a review of passing and what the coaches are looking for. A passing test will then be given to each player. The passing test is made up of controlled free ball tossed to passers. Each athlete has to make 8/10 controlled free balls to target in three areas. Moving forwards, moving to the left, and moving to the right. The athletes that make 80% or higher will get to move on to the next skill. Athletes that don't make 80% will get a chance to retest and review.
